In 1996 I started in a law firm with 100% male partnership. In 2022 that law firm is a dominated female partnership with one male partner.

Times and cultures have changed, which means support and understanding around menopause in the workplace needs to keep up.

In fact women now make up more than 60% of entrance to the legal profession, so it is imperative that law firms know how to deal with this difficult stage in an individual’s life.

Before launching my own business in 2019, I spent over 20 years working in law.

I have an indepth understanding of the uniqueness of law firms and I have no doubt that it is this understanding, along with my background, that appeals to the law firms I have supported to address menopause in their workplace.

2022 has seen a dramatic increase of requests for my support in law firms and I can’t wait to continue my working relationships with these firms who understand that this topic requires ongoing training and support.

According to the ‘Wellbeing of Women’, almost 900,000 women quit their jobs in 2019 due to the menopause.  You can see how important it is for firms to address this.

I have reflected on my 20 years in law and the various menopausal women I worked with. Going back to my early 20’s; my stark memory is that menopausal women were misunderstood. No one knew how to speak to them about their symptoms and menopause was a taboo subject.

Of course, I have taken time to reflect on my own career and the impact a premature menopause had for me. It is very hard for me to pinpoint the impact, but yes, I was going to work sleep deprived, struggling with concentration, the fan was on after each cup of tea and at times my confidence took a hit.  This was when the self-doubt crept in.

I am passionate about supporting all organisations address menopause in their workplace, but because of my own experience, I can’t help but have a sprinkle of added passion when I work with law firms.

A firm I am currently working with advised me that they have a 79% female demographic and therefore wish to continue the conversation to ensure they are continuing to show full support throughout the organisation.

If this sounds familiar to your firm, please get in touch, as I would love to help.
