My recent survey of HR professionals revealed a whopping 86% did not record menopause related sickness separately and this leads into one of the menopause related issues impacting the financial aspect of a business… ‘the unknown cost of menopause.’

I wonder what the answer would have been if I had asked the same HR professionals if they held a record of menopause related staff turnover…

The UK’s Balance App recently carried out some research, which focused on the financial impact of menopausal women leaving the workplace due to the menopause and associated costs of recruiting and retraining staff. The research revealed a staggering £10 billion was the cost to the UK economy.

Add this thought to the recent research carried out by Fawcett Society that revealed almost half of women haven’t approached their GP’s and this will give you a greater understanding that individuals continue to not understand this topic, suffer in silence, are dealing with symptoms that could be related to menopause and are ultimately not living their best lives at home or at work.

If I had the figures for the actual cost to an individual business, my work would implode!

Why?

Because businesses would want to decrease the cost of the amount of sick leave and staff turnover and they could do this by educating and supporting their employees. They could also reap the benefits of increased productivity and loyalty, as we all know that when we work in a supportive and inclusive workplace those things come hand in hand.

How can I help your business reduce the cost of menopause?

I’ll start by working with you to open up the conversation and we’ll do this in the best format for your firm. There are various options to consider:

  • An Informative and Supportive Presentation for the whole workforce.
  • Manager Awareness Presentation.
  • Menopause Champion Training.
  • Knowledge Share and Support Groups.
  • MHFA Awareness Presentation.
  • Real Life and the Menopause Presentation – the next steps.

There are so many options and I work with each client on a bespoke basis to fit with their culture and needs.

I see the immediate change following my work from HR professionals contacting me to say many in attendance have since contacted their GP for support and other individuals who felt they could now approach a manager to discuss the impact at work.

Why don’t you ask your employees if they feel they could benefit from the above and then ask yourself this question “ How much is menopause costing my business?”
